Yankari Game Reserve
Nigeria's largest and most popular wildlife park - home to Africa's biggest surviving elephant herd in West Africa
About Yankari
Yankari Game Reserve, established in 1962, is located in Bauchi State, north-eastern Nigeria. Covering approximately 2,244 square kilometres of savanna woodland, it is Nigeria's premier wildlife destination and one of the most important conservation areas in West Africa.
The reserve is home to the largest remaining population of African elephants in West Africa - estimated at 300-350 individuals. It also supports significant populations of hippos, baboons, waterbuck, bushbuck, roan antelope, and over 350 bird species.
Beyond wildlife, Yankari is famous for the Wikki Warm Springs, a naturally heated spring pool that maintains a constant temperature of 31C year-round. The reserve also contains prehistoric cave paintings in the Marshall Caves, dating back thousands of years.
