Lekki Conservation Centre

Africa's longest canopy walkway in the heart of Lagos - a 78-hectare oasis of nature in Nigeria's busiest city

About the Centre

The Lekki Conservation Centre (LCC) is a 78-hectare nature reserve managed by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF). Located on the Lekki Peninsula in Lagos, it is one of the few remaining areas of undeveloped land on the rapidly urbanising peninsula.

The centre's main attraction is Africa's longest canopy walkway, a 401-metre suspended bridge that takes visitors above the treetops for spectacular views of the forest and wetland below. The walkway reaches heights of up to 25 metres above the forest floor.

Despite being in the middle of Africa's largest city, the reserve supports a surprising diversity of wildlife including monkeys, crocodiles, peacocks, monitor lizards, and numerous bird species. It provides an important ecological corridor and is a vital green lung for Lagos.

What to See & Do

Canopy Walkway

The highlight of any visit. The 401-metre elevated walkway sways gently as you walk above the forest canopy. Several platforms along the route provide resting points and viewing areas. The walkway is safe and well-maintained, though it does sway - not recommended for those with severe fear of heights.

Nature Trails

Several ground-level trails wind through the reserve, passing through different habitats including wetland, forest, and savanna. Trails are well-marked and range from 30 minutes to 2 hours. Look out for monkeys, lizards, and butterflies along the way.

Wildlife Viewing

  • Mona Monkeys: Frequently seen in the trees, especially early morning
  • Nile Crocodile: Found in the wetland areas (viewed from safe distance)
  • Peacocks: Roam freely around the centre
  • Monitor Lizards: Large Nile monitors often seen basking
  • Birds: Over 100 species recorded, making it a popular birding spot

Treehouse

An elevated viewing platform in the forest canopy, providing a different perspective to the walkway. A quiet spot for bird watching and photography.

Picnic Area

Shaded picnic areas with tables and benches. Visitors can bring their own food and drinks. A small snack bar is also available.
