Nigerian Passport Renewal Services

Important Notice

Nigeria issues biometric e-passports compliant with ICAO standards. All passport applications start online at the NIS portal (passport.immigration.gov.ng), but biometric capture must be done in person at an embassy or NIS office. Processing typically takes 6-8 weeks from abroad.

Required Documents

  • Current or expired Nigerian passport (original)
  • National Identification Number (NIN) — mandatory since 2024
  • Birth certificate or age declaration
  • Marriage certificate (if name has changed)
  • 2 recent passport photographs (white background, 35mm x 45mm)
  • Completed online application via NIS portal
  • Payment receipt from NIS portal
  • Proof of legal residence in host country

Application Process

Obtain NIN

Ensure you have a National Identification Number (NIN). If not, enroll at your nearest Nigerian embassy offering NIN services.

Apply Online

Visit passport.immigration.gov.ng, create an account, fill in the application form, and select your preferred embassy for biometric capture.

Pay Fees

Pay the passport fee online through the NIS portal. Keep your payment receipt and reference number.

Book Appointment & Attend

Book a biometric capture appointment at your selected embassy. Attend in person with all required documents. Fingerprints and photograph will be captured.

Track & Collect

Track your application status online. The embassy will notify you when your passport is ready for collection.

Important Notes

  • Children under 16: Must be accompanied by both parents. If one parent is absent, a notarized consent letter and the absent parent's passport copy are required.
  • Lost passport: Report to local police first, then contact the embassy with the police report.
  • Damaged passport: Bring the damaged passport. Additional documentation may be required.
  • Name change: Court affidavit, newspaper publication, and marriage/divorce certificate required.
  • NIN mandatory: Applications without NIN will not be processed.
