SIM Registration Requirements

Since 2021, Nigeria requires NIN (National Identification Number) registration for all SIM cards. Tourists can use their passport.

What You Need

  • Valid passport with visa page
  • Passport photo (some stores can take one digitally)
  • Biometric capture (fingerprints at official stores)

Registration Process

  1. Visit an official operator store (not a street vendor)
  2. Present your passport and visa
  3. Complete biometric registration (15-30 minutes)
  4. Receive your SIM card and activate data plan

Tip: Registration at the airport can be busy. Consider visiting a store in your hotel area instead. MTN and Airtel stores are in every major shopping mall.

Plug Type

Nigeria uses Type G plugs (same as UK - three rectangular pins) at 230V/50Hz. Bring a UK adapter if coming from the US/EU.
